{lick them or just enjoy them}

***
Ta-daa! The bulletin board I did for our Primary. It's still a work in progress but I got all the main parts done. We had an idea of putting an owl in the tree with the words "who's birthday is it today?" (who = hoo!) and then the kids birthdays in leaves. The problem is that we share the board with two other wards (seurakunta) and we can't take over the board. But I guess we could stick the owl in there every time it's someone's birthday (we always sing for them).
I had to leave some room for announcement posters. The house would have looked nicer at the bottom of the board but it was kind of hidden behind the pulpit so I had to put it where it is.
Sure love doing something like this. :)

And since I happened to have the camera with me today at church and Sienna discovered the heating vent that was blowing warm air... :D

Then I'll share with you one of my hobbies: stamp collecting. I am by no means a serious collector. But I do love these little rectangles of paper (or whatever shape they come in). I don't collect them for value. I just like to keep the ones I like. Finnish stamps are really dear to me now that I've lived away from Finland for so long. They remind me of all the lovely things I like about Finland.

This one is one of my favorites as it's something "totally Finnish". Smoke sauna (an old type of sauna) and a naked family going for a swim in the lake. Can't be more Finnish than that. :)

I love the Kalevala and Finnish design stamps.

Now I mainly get Finnish Christmas stamps only since hardly anyone writes letters anymore. My mom makes a point of saving her stamps for me and I love her for that.

These are from mine and Jay's letters from our Ireland times. Precious.

I love aboriginal cultures so of course I have to get any Canada aboriginal stamps I find.

I think all the countries in the world should sell LOVE stamps. Way to go USA for always having these.

All you need is love. Love is all you need. (The Beatles)
Love is a wonderful thing. Makes you sing in pouring rain. (Michael Bolton)
I wish every single person in the world would have someone to love them. And I hope there would be more pure love in the world. Tons and tons and tons of it.

I love, love, love these big African stamps Jay got me long time ago. Love them!! I mean look at the first four in particular. :)

Then I always collect Canada's Chinese New Year stamps. Year of the monkey, year of the horse, the snake... The collector sheets are always so pretty. I'm a bit panicky as I went to get this year's one and they were sold out at this one place. I hope I won't miss it. Once you start something you can't miss one, right...
By the way, I totally do NOT believe horoscopes or these things. Just so you know.

And of course I always like anything art related.

I have lots of cat and butterfly stamps.
Check out the cat on the right. Doncha just love him? Admit it. He's adorable. :)

So there. Another fascinating thing about s a n s k u :). I don't know why but I love seeing these stamps in my binder all organized and in rows. Especially the ones I have received in letters from friends are dear to me. They're not valuable except for me. And who knows how much longer we'll even have stamps. Now they're almost always stickers and it's just not the same thing (even though I'm known to keep the cute ones of those too). And just so you know - this is not a thing I spend lots of time/money on. I think this year I only bought maybe 5 stamps and I have a huge stack of stamps that have been waiting to be soaked "like forever".

A really funny thing is that I found out quite recently that my dad collects stamps too. I didn't know my dad when growing up (my mom and dad divorced when I was very little and it wasn't a happy divorce) and it wasn't until couple of years ago I learned this fact about him. What are the odds. I think we inherit all kinds of things in our genes from our parents. I know another thing I'm like my dad - I hate it when someone passes me when I'm out there driving. :) If it wasn't for the speeding tickets, no one would pass me. But I don't speed dangerously. I keep my distance to the other cars and only go fast when "nothing's around" and I can "see far away". Once I had to drive from Fort McMurray to Edmonton by myself and I think I drove 140-150kms/hour lot of the way. It was very quiet on the highway that day. No big trucks, no traffic. Heavenly. :)

Happy Sunday everyone. My favorite day of the week. :)

Kuusi sekalaista asiaa minusta (olipa vaikea keksia uutta, polotan taalla koko ajan kaiken avoimesti):
-en tykkaa kovista karkeista (merkkarit on ok)
-satutin korvani tosi pahasti kun lensin Italiaan nuorena, itkin noin 20 minuuttia putkeen kun lentokone suoritti laskeutumista, sen jalkeen korvani on aina olleet herkat, tuuli tekee ne heti kipeaksi
-omistan puun Israelissa (tatini asui siella ja istutti meille hyvantekevaisyyspuun nimellamme kun mentiin naimisiin)
-inhoan nylon sukkahousuja, en suostu pitamaan niita ellei ole "ihan pakko"
-tykkaan pitaa puheita, opettaa luokkia (monien #1 pelko, ihmiset pelkaavat sita enemman kuin kuolemaa kuulemma) ja olen kovin avoin ihminen mutta olen tosi ujo monissa tilanteissa
-vaikka tykkaan modernista designista niin tykkaan myos 70-luvun pitkista hameista ja tietyista tyyleista, 70-luvun jutut modernisoituina, kiva olisi loytaa sellaisia vaatteita enemman

    Terkut Irlannista!

  4. Karly: Some eye candy for the kids. Still need to do some tweaking to it but I thought it turned out nice.

leena: Kaikki tuollainen on juuri minusta tosi hauskaa. Aina tulee special fiilis. Joka maa jossa on asunut/kaynyt on sellainen.
